Singlepoint sponsors NCI’s School of Computing Project Showcase 2019

Innovative PiParking project wins Best Project in Software Development Category at the National College of Ireland’s Project Showcase 2019

Jordan May was awarded the Best Project at the National College of Ireland’s Project Showcase 2019. The award was sponsored and judged by Singlepoint, one of Ireland’s leading specialist digital consulting companies and a leader in digital transformation.

Jordan’s project entitled ‘PiParking’ is a Car Park Management Systems. Available on Andoid, PiParking is a complete car parking management system to make finding a car parking space easier. Using computer vision, the user is updated on the number of car parking spaces available and also allows them to book a parking space. The app also provides users a platform to advertise spaces for other users to rent.

“While PiParking is a technology solution, it’s pushing digital transformation in quite a traditional business of owning, managing and running car parks”, explains Bill Gleeson, Sales Manager, Singlepoint. “Jordan is using existing infrastructure such as existing cameras that the car park operates, these intelligently detect whether a space has been filled or not and allows the operator to advertise spaces, and for users to find out where spaces are available. He used a great mix of technologies: Python, Google Firebase in the middle and all running off Raspberry Pi 3 at the moment but he did say that should he commercialise the app, he is looking at moving it to the cloud. We would like to congratulate Jordan on the quality and effort he put into his project and his innovate use of technology.”

The annual School of Computing Knowledge Transfer Ireland Project Showcase at National College of Ireland recognizes and celebrates the work of the final year computing students, marking the transition from their undergraduate degrees to their professional careers. Over 114 projects were developed using various prevailing technologies and tools, specialising in different domains.

Presenting the award to Jordan, Bill said, “I would like to congratulate Jordon and all of the graduates on their outstanding projects and wish them every success in their future careers. It was very difficult to choose a winner from all the wonderful projects here today.”
